A symphony of lights, sounds and visual effects will take you back to a time when the beloved poem “The Night Before Christmas” was first introduced in Sacramento in 1857. Start a new holiday tradition with this fantastic display of holiday story-telling at its best.

The inaugural night will take place on November 25 in conjunction with the annual Old Sacramento Tree Lighting at 6 pm at Front and K Streets. Two 10-minute light shows will run throughout the holiday season Thursdays through Sundays at 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm.Please consider parking in the Old Sacramento garage on I Street or the Tower garage. Run to Feed the Hungry THANKSGIVING DAY in Sacramento
The race starts on Thanksgiving Morning, November 26, just West of the entrance to the Sacramento State campus and runs through East Sacramento. Rain or Shine!

There will be 2 separate start times.
Timed 10k Runners Only - 8:45 a.m. Please arrive early!
Timed 5k Runners Only - 9:05 am
All Untimed 5k Fun Run/Walkers - to follow behind 5k start.

Train Time for Santa at the California State Railroad Museum

With toys, trains and even good ol’ St. Nick, the California State Railroad Museum is sure to capture and spread the spirit of the holidays with visitors of all ages.

“Train Time for Santa” activities which include exploring a variety of model train and toy train layouts on display inside the museum and experiencing festive train rides with Santa aboard his very own steam train. In addition, the museum will host the 13th Annual Toy Train Holiday Show that same three-day weekend--November 27 thru 29--where hobbyists from around the region will proudly display modular and portable toy and model train layouts set up in the Roundhouse surrounded by full size locomotives.

All holiday activities are included with museum admission with the exception of “Train Time with Santa.” Regular museum prices are $9 for adults, $4 for youths ages 6-17, and children 5 and under are free. “Train Time with Santa” ticket prices--which include complimentary admission to the Museum--are $15 for adults, $7 for youths ages 6-17 and children 5 and under are free. Train ride tickets are available on a first come, first served basis and trains depart hourly from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. from the Central Pacific Railroad Freight Depot at Front and “K” Streets in Old Sacramento.

27th Annual Sacramento Santa Parade 11/28/09

Beginning at 9th & I Streets

You may remember, in 2008, the parade was canceled due to lack of funding. Thanks to Mayor Kevin Johnson, who donated $20,000 from money left over from his inauguration account, the parade was saved is ready to roll again this weekend, the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

The parade will feature colorful holiday floats, marching bands, horses, clowns, and a special visit from Santa Claus. It will begin at Ninth and I streets and travel through downtown Sacramento, heading east on I Street to 13th street, south on 13th Street near the Convention Center, west on L Street, and north on Seventh Street. It will disband at Seventh and K streets. Announcers will be located on I Street between Ninth and 10th and at 11th and L streets.

Enjoy live children’s entertainment before the parade and lots of fun for the whole family! Bring some chairs and find a spot for you and your family anywhere along the parade route.

The parade brings more than 25,000 spectators to downtown Sacramento, so arrive early and plan accordningly.

22nd Annual Dickens Faire

The Old Town Dickens Faire is the traditional start of the Elk Grove Yuletide Season with entertainers and merchants appearing in mid-19th century costumes. Stroll through Old Town and explore local shops, craft and vendor booths, dine alfresco and mingle with friends and neighbors.

KCRA 3 and the California Highway Patrol present:The 11th Annual CHiPS for Kids Toy Drive

Bring a new, unwrapped toy to any participating school, CHP location, the Elk Grove Automall, Big Valley Ford, or other participating locations between Nov. 23rd and Dec. 20th. The toys will be delivered to hospitalized and disadvantaged children just in time for the holidays.

You can also join KCRA 3 and the California Highway Patrol and drop off your toy any time from 4:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4th at the main gate of Cal Expo.

Bring a canned food item or other non-perishable item when you visit the Zoo and recieve $1 off your Zoo admission! Donations benefit the Sacramento Food Bank and families in need.
