Veterans Day Activities in the Sacramento Area

ANTIOCH
Veterans Day ParadeParade starts at 11 a.m., 2nd and L streets

Newly-elected Congressman John Garamendi will join veterans, military families, local officials, and other celebrants to march at the Antioch Veterans Day Parade. It is Rep. Garamendi's first public event since being sworn into Congress last week.

CARMICHAEL
A memorial tribute will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Earl J. Koobs Nature Area, 5325 Engle Road. Colors presented at 11 a.m.

CITRUS HEIGHTS
A service with speakers and music begins at 10:30 a.m. at Sylvan Cemetery District, 7401 Auburn Blvd. Sponsored by the American Legion, Citrus Heights Post 637 and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Citrus Heights Post 5991.

ELK GROVE
9th Annual Veterans Day Parade
Pre-parade festivities begin at 10:45 a.m. at 8820 Elk Grove Blvd (CCSD parking lot) with the reading of the names of Elk Grove veterans, by Elk Grove Vice Mayor Sophia Scherman. The parade, which will begin at 11 a.m., will include approximately 1,463 people and more than 100 vehicles, and will proceed to Elk Grove-Florin Road and finish at Elk Grove Regional Park. Entries include the California National Guard Marching Band, nine school bands and 10 Scout troops. Representatives of the 101st Airborne Division and the 173rd Airborne Brigade will march with ex-prisoners of war.

FAIRFIELD
Veterans Day ParadeParade: 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.

The parade route will be Kentucky Street from Washington to Taylor, Taylor from Kentucky to Texas St, Texas St from Taylor to Washington St and Washington St from Texas St to Kentucky St. The staging area for parade participants will be on Kentucky St. from Jefferson St to Webster St. and Webster St. from Civic Center Dr. to Kentucky St.

FOLSOM
10th Annual Veterans Day ParadeParade starts at 9 a.m., in front of Target on East Bidwell St.

The parade follows East Bidwell, Coloma and Natoma streets to the Veterans Memorial near the City Hall complex. The judges review stand will be at the end of the parade route at City Lions Park.

The parade Grand Marshal is former Chief Warrant Officer Brian Holcomb, a Folsom resident who served in Vietnam as an Army chopper pilot and flew medevac helicopters in Iraq.

MARYSVILLE
Yuba-Sutter Veterans Day ParadeParade starts at 11 a.m., D St.

On display: a California State Flag, flown over Iraq, by the Army National Guard, 2668th Transportation Company during their deployment in 2005.

PLACERVILLE
4th Annual Veterans Day Tribute11 a.m., El Dorado County Veterans Monument, 360 Fair Lane

Highlights of this year's celebration and remembrance include the always popular flyover of four T-6 aircraft (weather permitting), 21-gun salute from the VFW rifle team, special guest speaker Brigadier General Michael A. Lepeilbet, and the award of El Dorado County Veteran of the Year to James Denmark. James is a member of the El Dorado County Veterans Commission and has been wheelchair bound for more than 40 years as a result of combat injuries.

PLACERVILLE
Veterans Day Health FairAmerican Legion Post Hall on Forni Drive next to the County Fairgrounds
2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Medical doctors and staff will be at the Hall to provide medical promotion, blood pressure testing, health information, and consultation.

RANCHO CORDOVA - MATHER
4th Annual Veterans Day Celebration 10 a.m., Veterans Memorial Plaza at the Sacramento VA Medical Center, 10535 Hospital Way
The ceremony will pay tribute to all U.S. military veterans, but the program will focus on women who have served in the U.S. military. A highlight of the program will be special recognition of four Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) who are World War II-era veterans, by Congressman Dan Lungren, who co-sponsored legislation to award the Congressional Gold Medal to deserving WASP.

ROCKLIN
Veterans Day Flag Ceremony8 a.m., William Jessup University flag pole, 333 Sunset Blvd. Featured speakers include Rocklin Vice Mayor Scott Yuill and Marine Corps Major General Douglas Stone. Veteran students and community members will be participating, as well as students from WJU's American Government class.

A commemoration is at 11 a.m. at Rocklin Cemetery, Veterans Memorial, 4090 Kannasto Road, sponsored by the American Legion, Rocklin Post 620 and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

ROSEVILLE
Salute to Veterans Pancake Breakfast 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., Roseville Veteran's Memorial Hall, 110 Park DriveHosted by Assemblyman Ted Gaines, R-Roseville.

Veterans Day Ceremonies and Parade
11 a.m.: Veteran's Hall at Royer Park, 190 Park Dr.
2 p.m.: World War II Monument, 114 Vernon St.

SACRAMENTO
The 18th annual service honoring Mexican American veterans and all veterans begins at 1 p.m. at the soldier's statue, Capitol Mall and 10th Street.

Veterans can receive a free folding cane for those in need of mobility assistance from 10 a.m.-8:30 p.m. at Sam's Club, 3671 North Freeway Blvd. Part of the "Hugo Salutes Our Veterans" program. Do not need to be a Sam's Club member to receive cane.

The Veterans History Project and Retired Senior Volunteer Program are looking for veterans to share their stories and have their experiences permanently archived at the Library of Congress. For more information, call (916) 875-4460.

WOODLAND
Veterans Day Observance11. a.m., Yolo County Superior Courthouse steps, 275 First St.
The ceremony is hosted by the American Legion Post 77 and the Yolo County Veterans Coalition. Maj. Gen. William Wade II, adjutant general of the California National Guard, will give the keynote address; servicemen and women from the Korean War will be honored guests.

Veterans Free Pork Dinner
7 p.m., Elks Lodge 1299, 500 Bush St.
Veterans eat free; families and guests $12.
