Holiday Lights in Sacramento


Here are some of the best places to see Christmas Lights in the Sacramento area. If you know of any good ones not listed please, let us know!


Christmas Tree Lightings

Christmas Can Tree Lighting Kick Off
Tuesday, November 24th
5:30 – 7:30
Secret Garden

Stroll through the garden sampling appetizers from local restaurants and wine from Carvalho Family Winery.

At 6:00 pm watch Elk Grove Mayor Pat Hume light the CanTree.

Attending this event is free. However if you wish to participate in food sampling and enjoy a glass of wine, tickets are $8.00 per plate and $5.00 per glass of wine.

Proceeds from this event will go towards The Salvation Army and The Elk Grove Food Closet. Please bring an item to help fill our holiday food baskets for The Elk Grove Food Closet.

Advance purchase tickets are available for $7/plate and $4/wine through Jennifer at The Secret Garden. Call 686-2006 for more information or stop by the store.

Old Sacramento Tree Lighting
November 25, 2009
Join us for the first tree lighting of the season in Old Sacramento on November 25 at 6 pm. The 50-foot tree will take center stage at Front & K streets as a part of Old Sacramento's brand new Theatre of Lights.
The festivities will kick off at 6 pm with live entertainment a visit from father Christmas, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson and will continue with the Tree Lighting at 6:30 pm and the first Theatre of Lights show at immediately following.

If you missed the Old Sacramento tree lighting, here is another chance to take the family to see a tree lighting ceremony. After the tree lighting ceremony, you can get a jump on your Christmas shopping at the Westfield Downtown Plaza.

Citrus Heights Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

The City of Citrus Heights invites you to bring your family and friends to the 13th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. This festive event will take place on Thursday, December 3rd at 7:00 p.m. in the Civic Center Complex at the corner of Fountain Square Drive and Greenback Lane.

This fun, festive event will feature:
- Musical Entertainment
- Sing-A-Longs
- Personal visits with Santa & Mrs. Claus
- Free Refreshments!! (cookies & hot cocoa)

There will also be bins for donations of non-perishable food, unopened toys, and coats / jackets (for the News10 Coats for Kids program). These items will be donated to the less-fortunate families in the local community. For more information, please contact City Hall at (916) 725-2448.

The Roseville Christmas Tree Lighting
Friday, Dec. 4, 2009
5:30 – 8 p.m.
Vernon Street across from the Civic Center

Mayor Gina Garbolino will flip the switch to light the city’s official holiday tree at approximately 6:30 p.m. Santa will be making a special visit to our town to meet with kids inside the Civic Center Rotunda, and hear their wish lists.

The popular kids’ fun zone will once again be back in action. Merchants in the area will have their stores decorated and be open late for holiday shopping, along with craft and food vendors.

Residents are reminded that the 200 and 300 blocks of Vernon Street will be closed, between Grant and Lincoln streets, from 2-10 p.m. for the event. Free parking is available at the Civic Center Parking garage. Remember to bring your cameras.

UPDATE Dec. 9, 2009:

Due to the recent weather, the traditional outdoor ceremony will be held indoors this year, inside the Capitol Rotunda. Because of limited space, it will be standing room only.

Gov. Schwarzenegger and First Lady Maria Shriver will help kick-off the holiday season with Mistress of Ceremonies Maria Menounos. The ceremony, themed "A Season of Giving", will begin at 5 p.m. and will include performances by Grammy Award-winning artists Brian McKnight, Thelma Houston and others.

The Capitol Christmas tree will be lit with 7,400 ultra-low wattage LED lights, and is decorated with nearly 1,940 ornaments created by Californians with developmental disabilities.
